Fryeburg Academy names girls’ basketball, ice hockey coaches

FRYEBURG — Sean Watson has been named as the Raiders girls’ varsity basketball coach, and Luke Ray has been selected as the Ice Cats varsity ice hockey coach.

“Very happy with both hires! Positive people committed to making decisions best for the Academy. Both have great reputations in dealing with kids,” said Fryeburg Academy Athletic Director Sue Thurston.

Watson is a 1988 graduate of Fryeburg Academy. He played baseball, basketball and football at FA. He graduated from the University of Maine at Farmington in 1992, and is currently teaching Economics and History at Kennebunk High School
.

Watson is the assistant golf coach at Kennebunk High School
.

He lives in Denmark with his wife Pamela; daughter Allison, who is a member of the FA class of 2015; and son Jack.

Previously, Watson was an assistant boys’ varsity basketball coach at Valley High School in Bingham under Dwight Littlefield (1992-2000)
 and a varsity baseball coach at Valley High School (1996-2000).

“I am very excited to have a community member, alumni and educator in this position! He will be meeting the players after the fall season is over,” Thurston said.

Ray has been a member of the Raider lacrosse coaching staff as a volunteer.

“Luke has done a tremendous job establishing himself as valued coach,” Thurston said.

He graduated from Fryeburg Academy in 2005, and was a member of the 2005 state championship ice hockey team. Ray played club and junior varsity hockey at New England College. He graduated from New England College in 2009 with at liberal arts degree in Education Studies.

Ray coached ice hockey at Kearsarge Regional High School in Sutton, N.H., and coached lacrosse at Kennett and Fryeburg.
