Frank Hladio, 89

Frank Hladio, 89, of Bridgton, died peacefully Friday, March 2, 2018, at Inland Hospital in Waterville from complications of lung cancer.

Frank was a transplant from Seaford, N.Y. He had lived in Bridgton for over twenty years. Before moving to Maine, he would spend his vacations fishing at Highland Lake, accompanied by a neighborhood teenager, one or another was always invited.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict from 1951–1953. He was a self-employed roofer. Frank was a bowler, golfer, loved to fish, and was a painter. Frank was a devout Roman Catholic and a daily communicant of St. Joseph Parish in Bridgton. Frank was an animal lover. He was especially fond of his German Shepherd dog, Ginger. He adopted several stray cats. The feeders were always full at Frank's house, and the feathered gang knew there was always a meal waiting for them.

For many years, Frank was solely responsible for the care of his elderly parents, Michael and Angela Hladio. Years later he took care of his four older sisters.

He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Angela Hladio of Seaford, N.Y.; a brother, Joseph Ladio of Wilmington, Del.; sisters, Ann Mason of Fla., Mary Rockfol of Old Bridge, N.J., Helen Scheliga of Wilmington, Del., Sister Mary Catherine of the Blessed Sacrament Convent, Yonkers, N.Y. Frank is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Frank will be especially missed by two very special friends, Al and Stella Bejnarowicz of Brooklyn, N.Y., with whom he communicated every Sunday afternoon for many years.

His family would like to express their deep appreciation and thanks to all of the caregivers/friends who gave him such very special care when he most needed their assistance.

Visiting hours will be held Friday, March 9, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Chandler Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, 8 Elm St., Bridgton. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, March 10, at 11 a.m., at St. Joseph Church in Bridgton.
