CASCO — Frank E. Braman, CDR USCG (ret), 81, of Coffee Pond and Governor’s Harbour Eleuthera, Bahamas passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 25, 2014 surrounded by his family.

He was born in Jamestown, R.I. on Aug. 14, 1933, son of Frank and Frances Braman. Frank joined the U.S. Coast Guard after graduating from Rogers High School in Newport, R.I. He met his wife Elizabeth (Wagner) Braman at Aquatic School in Hanson, Mass. They married in Holbrook, Mass. on April 5, 1958. Frank always enjoyed being near the water, whether the pond in Casco or the ocean in Eleuthera. Both he and his wife gave a sense of adventure to their four children, whether climbing glaciers in Alaska or SCUBA diving at age 79.

While in the Coast Guard, the couple lived all over the country, including Anchorage, Alaska and Mobile, Ala. They traveled the world visiting places such as the Holy Land, and Greece. After retiring from the Coast Guard, Frank enjoyed teaching for 20 years in the Lake Region. He was an active member of his community; as a member of the planning board, a volunteer fire fighter, and was involved in several environmental initiatives.

He is predeceased by a daughter, Susan of Casco.

Surviving are his wife of Casco; two sons, Scott of Peaks Island and Steve of Andover, Mass.; a daughter, Sally of Baldwin, N.Y.; and his grandson of Peaks Island.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Casco Village Church UCC at 941 Meadow Road. A graveside ceremony will follow at Lakeside Cemetery. A reception will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the Casco Village Church UCC.
