SOUTH HIRAM — Frances E. Pendexter, 94, of South Hiram died on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at her home after a long illness.

She was born in South China on Sept. 20, 1920, the daughter of Vinal and Edith (Mercier) Merrill of Windsor. She was a 1938 graduate of Madison High School and a 1943 graduate of the Maine General Hospital School of Nursing in Portland.

She became a Registered Nurse and worked at Maine General Hospital, as well as private duty nursing.

She married Arnold Pendexter of South Hiram in 1943. She worked at Vulcan Electric in Kezar Falls for several years as an inserter and as the plant nurse.

Frances was a member of the Niola Council #34 Pocahontas and the Great Council of Maine; a former member of the Charter Oak Grange #148 in South Hiram; member of the 50 Plus Club of West Baldwin and Senior Citizens in Kezar Falls. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and taking care of her family. She also loved animals and taking care of her cats. Frances and Arnold were avid attendees of Maine agricultural fairs, as well as being life members of Fryeburg Fair and Ossipee Valley Agricultural Societies.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Arnold C. Pendexter Sr., who died in 1996.

Surviving are two sons, Arnold Pendexter Jr. of Oxford and Vinal Pendexter of Cornish; four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a step-great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews.

An hour of visitation will be on Friday, May 8, from 1 to 2 p.m. immediately followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at the Watson, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple Street, Cornish. Online condolences may be expressed at: www.wnyfuneralhome.com
