Florence M. Maines, 99

 

COVENTRY, R.I. — Florence M. Maines, 99, passed away Sept. 8, 2016.

Born in Portland, to Frank S. Allen and Florence I. Galloway, on May 31, 1917, she graduated with the Deering High School, Class of 1934.

Florence was head beautician at The Eastland Hotel and Allen’s Beauty Salon, Morrill’s Corner; and did office work for her father at Frank Allen’s Pine Tree Battery, Morrill’s Corner, before becoming administrative assistant to Judge Chapman, chief judge, Maine District Court.

She lived in Windham and Bangor before moving to Cookeville, Tenn., and Ocala, Fla., where she did oil and acrylic artwork; then moved to Coventry, R.I.

She is survived by her son, Allan S. Maines of Coventry, R.I.; her brother, Raymond E. Allen of Sarasota, Fla.; her sister, Isabelle Koceika of North Sebago; and two grandchildren.

She was interred with her father and mother at Brooklawn Memorial Park, Portland, at 10 a.m. May 31, 2017, on what would have been her 100th birthday.
