Five to be inducted in LRHS Athletic Hall of Fame

Five alumni will be inducted into the Lake Region Athletic Hall of Fame this Friday, Sept. 21 at the high school.

The new inductees will be honored in a 5:45 p.m. ceremony in the high school auditorium. A social gathering will be held in the gymnasium beginning at 5 p.m. The public is invited. The inductees will also be recognized during halftime of the Homecoming football game between Lake Region and Marshwood (7 p.m. start).

The new inductees include:

Sandy Kolbrock, a standout field hockey player, alpine skier and track & field athlete for the Lakers from 1970 to 1973.

Chris Whitney, a standout basketball player and track & field athlete (who set school records in the 100-yard dash and the high jump) from 1978 to 1981.

Kevin Hancock, a standout basketball player from 1980 to 1984 at LRHS and a captain for the Bowdoin College team. He later was the head coach at Bridgton Academy, was a driving force behind Academy’s Third Century Fund to build a new Humanities center, and remains very active in local sports.

Brian Clement, a standout three-sport athlete from 1982 to 1986 (a starting point guard on the state champion 1985 basketball team and state champion in the 800 meters).

Kenneth Whitney, a standout boys’ basketball coach from 1981 to 1992 and a teacher at LRHS from 1981 to 2003.

Current Hall of Fame members include: Linda Whitney, Tom Clough, Cindy Fagan, Wanda Ward-McLean, Gary Speed, Lee-Lee Morrison, Matt Hancock, Arlene Hudson, Erich Reed, Tia Theriault, David Kilborn, Debbie Libby and Arthur Kilborn Jr.
