Evelyn Kelley

FALMOUTH — Evelyn May Kelley died in her sleep on November 1, 2014, at the Falmouth House in Falmouth.
She was born on March 4, 1917, in Woodbury, Vt., a daughter of Bessie (Bailey) and Clinton Thurston, and she was the wife of the late John Kelley Jr.
Raised in Winchester, N.H., she moved to Hartford, Conn., after graduation from high school. She and John Kelley were married in 1940 and subsequently moved to Hiram, where they eventually owned and managed the John F. Kelley and Son Lumber Company. They moved to Bridgton in 1964, where she continued to reside after John’s death in 1994, until she moved to Ocean View in Falmouth as a full-time resident in 2013.
Evelyn was a strong and energetic person who was very involved in the lives of her family, her friends and her community. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters, a founding member of the Hiram Women’s Club, a leader of the local 4-H Club, and a supporter of several local charitable and educational institutions. She was very proud of her Bridgton business — The Depot Street Laundromat — which she owned and operated in the 1960s.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband John; brothers Howard, Lawrence and Robert; her son Carl Alwin Fisher Jr.; and a great-granddaughter. She is survived by her sister Jean Tacy; a daughter Beverly Dudley and husband Art; a son Jack Kelley and wife Maggie; grandchildren Brenda, Cheryl, Kristin, Andrea, Robbie, Nick, Bryan and Kurt; great-grandchildren Eric, William, Max, Jonah, Addie, Greta, Launa, Natalie, Eliza, Simon, Sam and Hannah; and great-great-granddaughter Marion.
Services will be held in the spring of 2015.
