Evelyn L. Morton, 91

NAPLES — Evelyn L. Morton, 91, passed peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013.

She was born on July 4, 1922, the daughter of D. Russell Leavitt and Gladys Rogers Leavitt. She graduated from Bridgton Academy in 1940. On Oct. 1, 1944, she married James Harold “Coot” Morton and lived happily on the Edes Falls Road in Naples for the next sixty-nine years.

She was a member of the Eastern Star Pondicherry Chapter; a former member of the Crooked River Snowmobile Club, the Good Sam Camping Club, the Naples Grange, and the Swinging Pine Cones Square Dance Club. Evelyn was an active member of the Edes Falls Sewing Circle. She worked with her husband in the poultry business for 32 years. She was a longtime Red Sox and Celtics fan. She enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, gardening, cooking, crocheting, knitting, crafts, poetry and painting. Her greatest love, however, was her family.

She is survived by a sister, Violet McNaughton; a son William H. Morton and wife Dianne of Naples; grandchildren, Deborah Drew and husband Eric of Portland, Becky Morton of Gray, and William J. Morton and wife Alisa of Portland; and three great-grandchildren, Ashley Andrews, Connor Andrews and Jack Rideout.

She was predeceased by her husband on Oct. 28, 2013; four brothers, Paul, Roger, Merle and Richard; four sisters, Jenny Garcia, Pauline Martikainen, Josephine Tenney, and Elinor Mains.

Visiting hours will be held at Hall Funeral Home,  165 Quaker Ridge Rd. on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and the interment service will take place in the spring at the Edes Falls Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Naples Fire & Rescue, 1100 Roosevelt Trail, Naples, ME 04055, or to the Edes Falls Community Hall in care of Sharon Devorss, 23 Mill Lane, Naples, ME 04055.
