Eva Barker

WATERFORD — Eva Elizabeth Barker, 77, of Waterford passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at her home on Monday, Oct. 12, 2015.

The youngest of 10, she was born on April 29, 1938 at her family’s farm in Waterford to Raymond and Grace (Dearborn) Millett. Eva married Merl Barker on Oct. 16, 1959. Together, they created many memories in their home, welcoming sons Dale and Richard and daughter, Debra. Besides being a mother and wife, Eva worked in local apple orchards and used her warm-hearted personality as a caregiver to children and family members.
Eva loved gardening and canning. She was also an amazing cook. No matter how careful one would follow her recipe, the end result would never compare to hers. She also enjoyed bird watching and anticipated her cardinals to return every year. Eva was always up for a car ride, whether it was to watch the changing of the leaves, visit the ocean, or just pass the time away on a Sunday afternoon with the old man. Eva’s biggest joy came from watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. Whenever there was a baby around, you could bet Eva was snuggling with it.

She is survived by her three children, Dale, Richard and Debra; her seven grandchildren; her 11 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Gladys.

She was predeceased by her husband, Merl; her parents; her three brothers, Vern, Ralph and Elmer; and her five sisters, Mildred, Maisie, Nina, Katherine and Louise.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 15 at Chandler Funeral Homes, 45 Main Street, South Paris. Burial will be in Elm Vale Cemetery, Sweden Road, South Waterford.
