OLD ORCHARD — Ernest “Ernie” Chute Jewett III, 61, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarbough after a long illness.

Born in Bridgton, he was the son of Norma (Ridlon) and the late Ernest C. (Red) Jewett Jr. Ernie attended Bridgton schools and lived the majority of his life in town.

He worked in several area wood mills and for Sebago Inc. at Pleasant Mountain Moc. An avid reader, he enjoyed books of many genres, a love he passed onto his children.  Ernie enjoyed the beauty of his native Maine and the Lake Region.  He especially enjoyed working in his gardens and fishing Stevens Brook and Long Lake. He found joy in listening to music and was a fan of public radio and the Boston Red Sox.

Ernie was predeceased by siblings Stephan Jewett and Linda (Jewett) Cummings. He is survived by his mother, Norma Jewett of Naples; a daughter Marie, her husband Brian and grandchildren Kayla, Brianna and Samuel Wetherington of Denmark; a son, Joe Ernest Jewett of Holbrook, Mass.; brother Scott Jewett of Norway; a sister, Victoria Severance of Portsmouth, N.H.; and former wife, Marie (Reesie) Kirby of Framingham, Mass.

A celebration of his life will be held in the early summer.
