FRYEBURG — Emilien Joseph L’Heureux, 88, of Fryeburg, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at the Fryeburg Health Care Center, Fryeburg.

Emile was born on May 14, 1925 in Springvale, a son of Henry and Yvonne (nee Godbout) L’Heureux. Emile graduated from Sanford High School and went on to attend the University of Maine at Orono, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in Chemical Engineering. He was a veteran of World War II, serving overseas in the Philippines.

Emile’s first place of employment was with the Dupont Corporation in Seaford, Delaware. While in Seaford, he met his future wife of 60 years, Jacqueline (nee Ridgway), and started his family, Yvonne L’Heureux (presently of Laguna Beach, Calif.), Ramona L’Heureux (of North Conway, N.H.) and Lilianne Watko (of Churchville, Pa.).

The L’Heureux family moved to Rochester, N.Y., and then to Georgetown, Mass. Upon retirement, Emile and Jackie moved to Sanford, later to Oceanside, Calif., and finally moving to Fryeburg.

He served as an officer of the Knights of Columbus, and received his fourth degree. Emile was a member and past treasurer of the Georgetown Kiwanis Club. He crewed on the Nantucket Light Ship. His other interests included stamp collecting and photography.

Emile loved music, having played the saxophone and clarinet in his high school marching band. He played in a jazz band in college.

A viewing was held on Tuesday, Dec. 10, prior to a funeral mass service, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 854 Main Street, Fryeburg.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14 at the Notre Dame Cemetery, Springvale.
