Ellen Leland

Mrs. Ellen Leland, wife of the late William A. Leland Sr., of Bridgton, passed away Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, at the Bridgton Health and Residential Care Center on Portland St. in Bridgton.

Mr. and Mrs. Leland were devoted members of St. Joseph Catholic Church and taught religion classes to people converting to the Catholic religion. Ellen was a charter member of the Women’s Guild and the Chickadee Quilting club.

Ellen was predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, William A. Leland Sr. She was also predeceased by her parents, Marcus and Barbara O’Toole, and six of her eight siblings in the Boston area. Ellen was also predeceased by two children, Madaline and Jeffrey Leland. She is survived by two sisters, Agnes and Anne and their extended families; her daughters Michelle Porter, Eileen Woodruff and her husband Woody, Aimeé Leland-Metevier, Margaret Butler and her husband Ward; and sons William A. Leland Jr. and his wife Vikki, Matthew Leland and his wife Joan, and Daniel Leland and his wife Briana. Ellen is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

Family and friends were invited to the memorial visitation on Wednesday, Nov. 16. A Funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m., on Thursday, Nov. 17 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bridgton. A celebration of her life will be celebrated at the church hall after the service.
