Elizabeth L. Barker, 94

NORWAY — Elizabeth L. Barker, 94, formerly of Stoneham, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at Norway Center for Health and Rehabilitation.

She was born Jan. 9, 1923, to Thaxter and Louise Littlefield. On Dec. 9, 1945, she married the love of her life, Edmund C. Barker, upon his return from the war and they had one son, Cecil E. Barker.

For many years Bet was Assistant Postmaster in the Stoneham Post Office, as well as driving school bus for the students in Stoneham. The children in Stoneham affectionately called her “Aunt Bet.” During WWII, she worked in Conn., at an arms factory, helping to support our troops. One of her great joys was traveling to Washington, D.C., with her husband, and seeing the WWII Memorial and the tribute to the women who worked hard in their support. Both Edmund and Bet were amazed when they viewed the Arlington Cemetery and the Changing of the Guard.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Edmund; a brother Earl Littlefield; and a sister Pauline Lawrence; as well as her most beloved dog, Smoke. She is survived by her son Cecil and his wife Anita; her grandson Steven and his wife Nora; her granddaughter Kelly and her partner Keri Bettenhauser; and three great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
