Edwin J. Metcalf

PORTER — Edwin James Metcalf, 90, passed away on Oct. 4, 2011.

He was born in Parsonsfield on Oct. 10, 1921, the son of Everett and Sarah Metcalf. A lifelong resident of Porter, he graduated from Porter High School with the Class of 1938.

Edwin was a World War II veteran and served overseas in the Army Air Corps as an airplane mechanic on the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 7, 1945.

He and his wife, Beatrice Elaine, were married on Aug. 21, 1945, and raised their family in their first home on Colcord Pond Road.

Edwin worked for many years as overseer of weaving for the woolen mill in Kezar Falls. He was a life member and past Commander of the American Legion Post #123 of Kezar Falls, and a life member of V.F.W. Post #7642 of Hiram.

He enjoyed participating in bingo with both organizations.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife of 66 years, Beatrice Elaine; two sisters, Dora and Ida;

He is survived by three sons, Lyndon of Porter, Scott of Porter and Randall of West Baldwin; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and his brother Donald of Cornish.

At Edwin’s request, there will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 10 a.m., at the Kezar Falls Burial Grounds, School Street, in Kezar Falls (Porter). Arrangements by Watson, Neal & York Funeral Home, Cornish.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maine Center for Cancer Medicine and Blood Disorders in Scarborough or Hospice of Southern Maine in Scarborough.
