Edward M. Cousins, 84

WESTBROOK — Edward M. Cousins, “Ed” or “Sonny,” 84, known by many, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019, at the Gosnell House in Scarborough, surround by his family.

He was born July 5, 1934, in Otisfield, the son of Gladys and Howard (Kimball) Cousins. On May 19, 1956, he married the love of his life, Barbara E Spiller. They were married for 61 years. They lived in Buxton, Bolsters Mills, Scarborough and finally in Westbrook. Right after they were married, he was drafted to the Korean War, where he was in the Army Signal Corps. He worked for Hannaford Bros. from 1955–1990. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and in 1953 he qualified for the Biggest Bucks Club, having a deer that weighed in at 220 lbs.

After retirement Sonny and Barbara traveled with many dear friends. This was a highlight in life for him. Sonny always said that he would never forget all the great memories that were made.

He was a devoted husband, father and papa. He loved spending time with his four grandsons. With having two daughters he thought for sure he would have granddaughters. But he was blessed with grandsons. They all meant the world to him. He loved when they came to visit to tell him how their day was going. They all loved his stories of hunting and fishing and all the crazy things he did as a young boy. They could listen to him for hours. All of the grandsons feel they would not be who they are today without their Papa and Nana. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening and his family and friends. He worked hard, played hard and lived life to the fullest.

He is survived by his daughters, Donna Davis and husband Ken of Westbrook, and Cindy Reny and husband Lance of Monmouth; grandsons Brandon Lund and girlfriend Adrienne Henderson of Westbrook, Ryan Lund and girlfriend Cortney Martineau of Hollis, Joshua Reny of Monmouth and Andrew Reny of Monmouth; great-grandson Bradley Reny of Monmouth; sister Judy Schultz and husband Thomas of Astatula, Florida; brother Philip Cousins and wife Emma of Arab, Alabama; very special son-in-law E. Vincent Lund; and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Barbara E. Cousins; parents Gladys and Howard Cousins; brother Chester Cousins; sisters June Bishop and Debbie Angwin.

A celebration of life will be held at the Spurr’s Corner Church, 1005 Route 121, Otisfield, on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow downstairs.
