Edward D. Conway

HARWICH, MASS. — Edward Dennis Conway, 89, died June 11, 2011 in Harwich, Mass.

He was born Nov. 25, 1921 to James and Elizabeth Conway of East Boston, Mass.

For many years and until his retirement in 1986, Edward and family resided in Wakefield, Mass., where he was actively involved in the community as an elected official. He forged many lifelong relationships within the town, which lasted for the remainder of his life. He then relocated to Naples, Fla. and summered at Keoka Lake in Waterford.

Edward was a decorated war veteran rising to the rank of Lt. Colonel while serving during WWII in China.  After the war, Edward was an active member of the Marine Corps reserve for many years serving for two years in Quantico, Va. during the mid-1960s.

Edward spent much of his time fulfilling a lifelong passion for travel with Bernadette as well as serving as a distinguished and highly respected role model for all his extended family.

A lifelong family man, he leaves behind his beloved wife of 66 years, Bernadette M. (Young) Conway; seven children, Edward Conway Jr., James Conway, Michael Conway, Anne Haglof, Stephen Conway, Eileen Rounds and Robert Conway; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 17 at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church, 57 Highland Avenue, Chatham, Mass.
