Edith Yoe

DUBLIN, N.H. — Edith “Edie” Cora Yoe, 98, passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at the home of her youngest daughter, Catherine Carabello, of Dublin, N.H., surrounded by her family.

She was born in Oscawanna, N.Y., on Aug. 2, 1919, the daughter of Clarence and Ida Valentine. She graduated from Hendrick Hudson High School in 1936, and went on to earn a degree in cosmetology from Empire Beauty School in New York City.

She met her husband, James, on the train while both were commuting to school. They were married in 1942 in Marianna, Fla., where Jim was stationed in the Army.

Edie was an avid baker and was active in the Girl Scouts, the Parent Teacher Association and the local Garden Club.  She and her husband were active for many years in the Boscobel Square Dancing Club. Most of all, Edie was a wonderful mother who put her children before everything.

For almost 50 years she enjoyed spending summers at the family cottage on Long Lake in Bridgton, Maine. When Jim retired, the couple lived between the Maine Cottage and their house in Lakeland, Florida.

She is survived by her daughters, Catherine Carabello of Dublin, N.H., and Linda Roney of South Deerfield, Mass.; her sons, James Yoe of Baltimore, Md., and William Yoe of Dublin, N.H.; eight grandchildren: Abigail Roney, Samuel Roney, Moira Yoe, Adrienne Yoe, Jonathan Carabello, Maria Carabello, Brian Frye, and Gregory Frye; two great-grandchildren: Emma Roney and Wyatt Frye; and a niece, Valentine Galasso.

A private family memorial service will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lakes Environmental Association, 230 Main Street, Bridgton, ME 04009, or to the Bridgton Public Library, 1 Church Street, Bridgton, ME 04009.
