CASCO — Edgar A. Glassford, 74, of Casco passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 6, 2015 at the Gosnell Hospice in Scarborough following a long painful struggle with the effects of heart disease and kidney failure.

Ed was born in Portland on Oct. 13, 1941, the son of the late Andrew and Mae (Robinson) Glassford.

Ed attended Portland schools and graduated from Fryeburg Academy with a post-graduate degree in mechanics. In 1960, Ed married Martha Watkins and moved to Casco, where they raised their family. Ed worked most of his life beginning as a paperboy at the First National Store, and 25 years at Canada Dry Bottling as transportation manager. Following retirement from Canada Dry, he worked locally driving a truck. Ed became a member of the Naples-Casco-Raymond Lions Club in 1977 and served as president from 1991-1992. He was a familiar face at Watkins Flowers working with his wife and daughter.

Ed is survived by his wife of 55 years, Martha Watkins Glassford; three daughters, Carolyn Drew, Peggy Taylor and Wendy Bartlett. He enjoyed and loved eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; three loving sisters, Sara Littlefield of Portland, Betty Dubois of Winter Haven, Fla. and Emily Legere of Hartland; several nieces and nephews, who were important to him.

Ed enjoyed several hobbies including woodworking, fast cars, NHRA, NASCAR, hunting, playing cards and anything on the “honey do” list. He took pride in his work done for the Casco-Raymond Historical Society during the initial set up of the facility it is in now.

Visiting hours were Tuesday at Hall Funeral Home, 165 Quaker Ridge Road, Casco, where a funeral service was held on Wednesday. Online condolences may be left for the family at hallfuneralhomeinc.com
