LOVELL — As Silas Eastman started his second “loop” at the Lovell Athletic Field Saturday morning, one woman told her running partner, “This may be the only time in my life that I was actually running with Silas.”

Well, she was a lap behind, but that “Kodak” moment was just some of the fun experienced by those taking part in the 2012 Gasping Gobbler 5K.

Eastman, a Gobbler and state high school cross-country champ, finished his run in 16 minutes, 27.1 seconds out of a field of 82. Eastman, a resident of Chatham, N.H., is a senior at Fryeburg Academy.

Diane Bessey of Old Orchard was the first female, finishing in 23:42 for 13th overall.

Tamylea Guptill of Fryeburg, with a time of 41:08, was the first walker to cross the finish line.

All three winners received a turkey (courtesy of the Bridgton Hannaford) as did Anna Romer of Lovell for finishing in the “Middle of the Pack.”

Meg Dyer, Lovell’s Recreation Director, and Stan Tupaj were very appreciative of the strong support from both sponsors and volunteers that made this event a successful fundraiser for the Recreation Department.

A special thank you to Marc and Ann Kurnick for once again organizing and serving the delicious chowders, stews and chilies to the crowd.
