SCARBOROUGH — Duane Oliver Thomas, 84, of Florida and Scarborough, passed away while surrounded by his loving family, on May 25, 2013, in Maine, following a brief illness.

He was born in Sherman Mills, Maine, a son of Hilbert and Julia (Sides) Thomas.

Duane was a truck driver for much of his life, working for A&P and local oil companies. He was longtime member of the Teamsters Union Local 340, a Shriner and Master Mason at Gov. William King Lodge in Scarborough.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Alta L. (Smith) Thomas; his children, Kathe Jewett of Hamden, Paul Thomas of Saco, Dixie Conley of Casco, Duane Thomas Jr. of Marco Island, Fla. and Les Thomas of Scarborough; a sister, Thelma Perrin of Sherman Mills; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

A reception for friends and family to celebrate the life of Duane Thomas will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at The Cumberland Club, 116 High Street, Portland.
