Dr. Harbans Sodhi

APEX, NO. CAROLINA — Dr. Harbans Singh Sodhi, 88, of Apex, No. Carolina, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016. Dr. Sodhi was a man of great good will whose kind and generous nature was a model and source of joy to all who knew him.

He was born to the late Dr. Inder Singh Sodhi and Parmeshwari Sodhi of Patiala, India. He graduated from Amritsar Medical College and studied at the London School of Tropical Medicine. Dr. Sodhi was a distinguished pathologist whose judgment was relied upon by his admiring colleagues whose patients benefited by his vast knowledge and good sense. At his retirement he was Chief of Pathology at Stephens Memorial Hospital and Bridgton Hospital in Maine, having served these medical communities in many capacities including Chief of Staff.

His curiosity and adventurous nature carried him to Burma, India, Ghana and to America. He enjoyed many hobbies including tennis, painting, computers, gardening (having once grown a 250 lb. pumpkin). His daytrading in Exxon stock, which he enjoyed greatly, fortunately turned out to be harmless. In his later years he maintained his connections with people of all ages. To the following generations he exemplified the possibility of a life combining accomplishment with kindness, generosity and love.

Dr. Sodhi was a loving and devoted husband to Bhavani Amma Sodhi, a gentle father to his daughters Sheila (Rajan) Bhagwandass and Neena (Malcolm) Sodhi Shupeck, a patient and kind grandfather to Lekha, Amit, Nithin and Laura, all of whom will miss him a great deal.

Services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016, at 2:30 p.m., at the Wynne Center of Brown-Wynne Funeral Home (300 St. Mary’s Street in Raleigh, No. Carolina), with cremation to follow.
