PORTER — Dorothy Gilman “Dottie” Locke, 95, of Porter, passed away after a brief illness on Monday, Sept. 19, 2016, at Maine Medical Center in Portland, with her family by her side.

She was born Feb. 13, 1921, to Arthur and Olive (Gray) Gilman in Porter, at the Gilman Family Farm, where she continued to live for the rest of her life. She attended local schools, graduating from Porter High School Class of 1938. She attended college at University of Maine Orono, graduating in Class of 1942 with a degree in education.

She worked for Piscataquis and York County 4-H Extensions. She taught for four years at Cornish High School, then 14 years at Sacopee Valley High School, teaching home economics to many of the folks still living in this community.

She was a 76-year member of the Porter Grange, which involved the Pomona, State, and National Granges. She was a 78-year member of the Riverside United Methodist Church. She also was involved in many local organizations, including LMR Club, UMW, Porter Union Workers, and the Parsonsfield-Porter Historical Society. At 95 years old, she currently held the Boston Post Cane for the Town of Porter.

Dottie and her late husband, Clayton, shared many wonderful years up until his death in 2013. She enjoyed taking bus trips with friends, working in the garden, making quilts, and knitting countless mittens for her many grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Clayton Locke; and her son, Paul Locke.

Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Parker of Porter; two grandsons including Seth Locke of Harrison and two granddaughters; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Riverside United Methodist Church, 5 School Street, Porter.
