Dorothy A. Larsen

PORTLAND — Dorothy A. Larsen, 80, of Portland died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012 at Maine Medical Center with her family by her side.

Dorothy was born in Portland on June 26, 1931, the daughter of Edward L. Sr. and Mary Frances Levesque Delaney. She was educated at Sacred Heart School and graduated from Portland High School in the Class of 1949.

On June 20, 1953, she married Bernard N. Larsen at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Portland.
Dorothy worked for New England Telephone Company for several years. In 1956, Bernard Larsen and brother-in-law, Thomas Moran, started Moran’s Market on outer Forest Avenue. After Thomas Moran’s passing, Bernie and Dottie continued the store. Together with their children, the market is still operating today with the same family and business values with which it was started over 55 years ago.

Dottie enjoyed being surrounded by her family and friends. Whether she was at camp on Highland Lake or entertaining her family at home for the holidays, Dorothy loved cooking and sharing stories with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed winter trips to Florida with her husband and sister, watching the Cooking Channel, old movies, reading the daily paper and doing the crossword puzzle.

Dorothy was predeceased by a sister Catherine Delaney-Lorello; and two brothers, James and John Delaney.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Bernard N. Larsen; a daughter, Krista Lynch of Scarborough; three sons, Peter N. Larsen of Portland, Paul C. Larsen of Raymond and John E. Larsen of Windham; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary S. Burns of Cape Elizabeth; two brothers, Edward L. Delaney of Pennsylvania and Robert W. Delaney of Portland; many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours were held on Monday, Jan. 16, 2012 from to 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Prayers were recited at the funeral home at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012 followed by a 9 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, corner of Mellon and Sherman Street, Portland.
