Donald P. Legare

Donald Legare

Donald Paul Legare, 59, of Denmark, Maine, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 7, 2022, after a five year hard fought battle with prostate cancer.

Donald was born on June 19, 1962 to Roland and Claire Legare in Central Falls, R.I. Donald spent his early years growing up in Rhode Island before moving
to the hustle and bustle of Stow, Maine, where he fell in love with the area and those who helped raise him. In 1978, Donald and his family
moved back to Rhode Island where he graduated high school from Davies Vocational High School in Lincoln, R.I. After graduation, he moved back to the area of North Fryeburg where he worked on local dairy farms. In 1985 he joined the Army serving as a mortar man in the 10th Mountain Division until 1988.

After his time in the Army, he moved back to North Fryeburg where he worked locally for many of the same dairy farmers. His true joy and happiness was milking cows. During that time, he met the love of his life and later wife of 28 years, Tracy Legare. Together for 33 years, they built a life together raising four children. With his fourth child on the way, Donald accepted the position of Transfer Station attendant for the Town of Denmark. The Transfer Station was a perfect fit for his outgoing personality and sense of humor. He knew anyone and everyone; often being referred to as the unofficial Mayor of Denmark for his honest opinion about anything and everything. He truly loved serving the Town of Denmark from 1996-2022.

Donald is survived by his wife Tracy Legare of Denmark; daughter Lynn and her husband Brian Carlton, and grandkids Jasmine, Emmerick and Elliot of Phillips; son Keeno and wife Caitlin Legare, having baby Legare due in July, of Denmark; daughter Lily and her husband Frank Mitchell and granddaughter Amelia of Holland, Vt.; daughter Loreal and partner Clyne Sullivan currently of Toronto, Canada. Also survived by parents, Roland and Claire Legare of Denmark; older brother Paul Legare and wife Kay of Lovell; sister Pauline Lemieux and husband Gerry of North Smithfield, R.I.; younger brother Michael Legare and wife Stephanie of Titusville, Fla.; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Donald and his family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, specialists and all others who have helped Donald over the past five years.

A devoted husband, father, Poppy and public servant! Until we meet again Dad, toots!

We all love you!
