AUBURN — Donald H. Monson, 88, of Denmark, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016.

He was the husband of Marion Monson, to whom he was happily married for 68 years. A lifelong resident of Denmark, Don owned and operated the Village Store and Agway Feed Co. He was also the founder of Monson Oil Company, which is now Downeast Energy. Don’s passion for the outdoors also led him to receive his certification as a registered Maine guide.

Don was a dedicated family man who passed on lasting lessons, memories of outdoor adventures, and traditions to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. These great gifts will be cherished and handed down for generations to come.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing trips with his family and friends. He and Marion spent several winters ice fishing at their log cabin on Sand Pond, and their summers traveling to northern Maine.

He is survived by his wife Marion; daughters Donna Hobbins and husband Barry of Saco, and Jacklyn MacFarlane and husband Gary of Denmark; grandchildren: Jessica Gyger and Dan, Julie Davis and Eric, Jenny Valente and Casey, Jon Hobbins, Dr. Delia Overschmidt and John, and Liam Hobbins; great-grandchildren: Sean and Cody Davis, Addison, Kendall, and Brady Valente. He is also survived by a sister-in-law Wilma Lord, and a brother-in-law Roger Bucknell; nieces, nephews, and many good friends. He was predeceased by his mother, sister, and two brothers.

Don’s family would like to extend their appreciation to Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for their compassionate support.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016, at the Berry Cemetery in Denmark. In lieu of flowers the family asks you to consider memorial donations in honor of Donald to the Denmark Congregational Church, P.O. Box 816, Denmark, ME 04022, or Denmark Lions Club, P.O.
