David Philbrook

NAPLES — David Ray Philbrook, 80, died at home after a long battle with lung and heart disease on March 28, 2018.

David was born in Hanover, N.H., on June 28, 1937, a son of Cordelia Mae (Rodger) Philbrook and Raymond R. Philbrook.

Upon graduation, David attended the U.S. Naval Commissary School and utilized this training over the years as a baker/chef manager in various food service organizations and positions. He first came to Maine in 1976, to run the kitchen for Bridgton Academy. He ultimately ended his long culinary career with service in SAD 15 schools, then finally at St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston.

David enjoyed playing softball, fishing, camping, bird watching, carpentry and spending time with his grandchildren and watching television with his favorite chihuahua, Stubby. His shoes will be hard to fill and he will be dearly missed.

He is predeceased by his wife, Mary Esther (French) Philbrook of Naples; his daughter, Marina Anne (Philbrook) Geneseo of Harrison; his sister, Jean French, formally of Norwich, Vt.; and four grandchildren.

He is survived by a brother; his daughter, Lynn Marie (Philbrook) Capen of Naples; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

David and his wife Mary, who passed some time ago, will have a joint committal ceremony on June 17, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Crooked River Cemetery, Route 11, Naples, on what would have been their 61st wedding anniversary.
