Daphne Martin

SOUTH PARIS — Daphne June Martin, 76, of South Paris, passed away at her home that she loved, with her loving family by her side, Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016, after battling cancer.

She was born in Sweden on Sept. 26, 1940, the daughter of Arthur and Hilda Chandler Cannell. She attended schools in Sweden and Bridgton. She married Forrest Martin Feb. 24, 1968, and together they raised two families and owned Martin’s Store. Later she went to work at the Family Dollar Store. Daphne loved family get-togethers, flea markets, gardens, Goodwill, and most of all she loved to dance — she went just about every Sat. night. She loved people. A weekly trip to Walmart would always be a long event. “She surely would run into someone she knew.”

She is survived by three children, daughter Pamela and her husband Jeff Jewell of Waterford, son Gregg Martin and his companion Laura of Harrison, and daughter Lisa Martin of So. Paris; seven grandchildren, Buck Gouin and his companion Ashley, Gregg Gouin and his wife Melissa, Whitney Jewell and her companion Danny, Gregg Martin Jr. and his wife Brandy, Holly Buck, Tony Martin and Lacey Oliver and her companion Tyler; three great-grandchildren, the apple of her eye, Faith, Ethen and Declan; two sisters, Marcia Bradley of Oregon and Mary Arndt of Harrison; and two brothers, Walter and Glen Cannell, both of Bridgton. She leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved her. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Forrest; three sisters, Joyce Cannell, Susan Durfee and Judith Nevers, a niece Tina Boody, and later love of her life, John Wormwood. Online condolences may be shared with her family at www.chandlerfunerals.com

Family and friends may attend graveside services Sunday, Dec. 4th at 2 p.m., at the Norway Center Cemetery, followed by a celebration potluck at the Wilkins House in Waterford. In lieu of flowers, donations in Daphne's name may be sent to Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, 15 Strawberry Ave., Lewiston, ME 04240. Arrangements are under the care of Chandler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 45 Main Street, South Paris.
