Daniel J. Walker, 79

HANOVER, MASS. — Daniel J. Walker, Brigadier General (MOB) retired, of Hanover Mass., and Denmark, Maine, formerly of Jamaica Plain and Randolph, Mass., passed away peacefully on June 23, 2014.

Dan was born on April 4, 1935, in Flushing, N.Y., and was a lifelong Yankees fan. Dan was the son of the late Angus and Renee (Clifford) Walker of Jamaica Plain.

He was the beloved husband of the late Joan (MacDonald) Walker for over 45 years. His devoted children and spouses are: Paula and William Pelzer of Denmark, Daniel and Elizabeth Walker of Hanover, and Michael and Eileen Walker of Scituate, Mass. Dan leaves a much-adored granddaughter, Marissa Walker of Hanover. Dan also leaves three sisters, Barbara Fulp of Norfolk, Va., Patricia Vining of Braintree, Mass., and Joan Fede of Boynton Beach, Fla., as well as many nieces and nephews.

Dan had both a military and civilian career. He was a Registered Professional Engineer and founder/president of CDA Associates, a construction management and consulting firm located in Boston, while maintaining a very active role in the U.S. Army Reserve. He spent nearly 35 years rising up through the ranks from Second Lieutenant to Brigadier General (MOB). His military career culminated in 1989 after being awarded the Legion of Merit, given for exceptionally meritorious performance of duty. He was a member of the Elks, the American Legion and the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts.

Visiting hours were held Friday, June 27 at the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St., Rte 53 in Hanover. A Funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday, June 28 at St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Church, 392 Hanover St., Rte 139 in Hanover. Burial followed in Hanover Center Cemetery.
