HARRISON — When Del and Pam Arey went for their walk along Route 35 in Harrison, they couldn’t believe what they saw.

“My wife and I are disappointed at what we see along the roadway. We walk three miles a day and we always take a bag with us to pick up the trash while walking,” Del said. “We do know that it isn’t always the tourist but other inconsiderate people that don’t care about keeping Maine and our towns clean.”

Recently, the couple was walking along the road and found where someone had disposed of at least six bags of trash.

“It was all party items. This was done deliberately by some of our tourists that love to come to Maine, but do not seem to care what they do with their trash,” he said. “My wife and I went back and got the truck and came back to clean the mess up which took us a good half-hour. Then, an extra trip to the transfer station. We know that it was tourist because there were items that were bought in Malden, Mass. and also from Rhode Island and North Conway. We are not condemning all tourist, as we know that there are a lot of very nice people that come from out-of-state that do care about Maine and our towns being clean. This message is to the tourist and our own residents — let's help and keep our state clean and beautiful.”
