SOUTH CASCO — Cole Nason Plummer, 68, of Casco passed away peacefully after a long illness at Ledgewood Manor in Windham.

Cole was born in Portland, Jan. 19, 1947 to Malcolm H. Plummer and Hildur A. (Cole) Plummer.

He attended Westbrook schools until 1959 when the family moved to Casco. He graduated from Casco High School in 1964. He married Sharon L. Dingley on April 15, 1967. In 1969, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at Northeastern University in Boston, Mass.

Cole worked at Shively Labs in Raymond for approximately 10 years. He then moved to Dielectric Communications, also in Raymond, in the 1980s. He had a successful career there holding several patents and positions including vice president of Engineering and vice president of Manufacturing. He retired in 2002.

Cole joined the Casco Fire Department in 1969 and was involved for 20-plus years. He was training officer, became an EMT-B in 1977 and was elected fire chief from 1981 until 1985. In the early 1970s, Cole was a member of the 82 Crew that raced at Oxford Plains Speedway.

Cole followed in his father’s footsteps and was active in Boy Scouts, serving as assistant Scout master and then Scout master of Troop 108. He received Order of the Arrow in 1993. Cole also coached several levels of baseball for the Towns of Casco and Naples from T-ball to Babe Ruth and all-star teams. He enjoyed music, playing the guitar, fly fishing and golf.

After his retirement, he and Sharon traveled the NASCAR circuit to 17 tracks from New Hampshire to Las Vegas. Cole was a devoted family man.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years; his children, Gretchen and Greg; two grandsons; mother Hildur; and brothers Craig and Cary and their families.

A celebration of life will be held on May 24, 2016 at Casco Central Station at 2 p.m. Arrangements are by Hall Funeral Home, Casco.
