Clayton R. Locke, 96

PORTER — Clayton R. Locke, 96, of Porter, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013 at The Gorham House.

He was born Sept. 23, 1917 in West Baldwin, the eldest son of the late Albert and Lilla (Ridlon) Locke. He attended local schools graduating from Fryeburg Academy in 1935. He served in the United States Army from 1941, stationed in North Africa touring through to Italy until 1945.

He married Dorothy Gilman Locke on Sept. 14, 1946 and became a permanent resident of Porter, where they shared their lives together. He was a cook for many years before and after his retirement. He worked for Cornish and Kezar Falls Light & Power, and Vulcan Electric, retiring in 1981. Always active in the community, he was a lifelong member of the Kezar Falls American Legion Post #123, Porter Grange (79 years), clerk for town of Porter, selectman (50 years), Riverside United Methodist Church, Porter-Parsonsfield Historical Society and any other organization that needed a volunteer.

He wore many hats and went by many names: Clayton, Uncle Tate, Dad and Bumpa, to most. He loved a good yard sale, was quick to smile, and was always able to make whoever was in his presence feel important and special. He enjoyed collecting stamps, coins, buttons, post cards, pencils, matchbooks, and much to his wife's patient heart, many, many other things. Clayton will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dottie; daughter, Patricia Parker of Porter; four grandchildren including Seth Locke of Harrison; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

He is predeceased by his brothers, Leonard Locke, Fred Locke and Myron Locke; and his son, Paul Locke.

A private graveside service was held on Sept. 8, in Kezar Falls. The family would like to invite all friends and loved ones to a memorial service on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m. at the Riverside United Methodist Church in Porter. Refreshments will follow the service.

Arrangements by Watson, Neal & York Funeral Home.
