Citizen of the Month: Andrew Carlson

Andrew Carlson of Casco has been selected as the Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club’s “Citizen of the Month” for December.

Each month, the Rotary Club recognizes a Lake Region High School student who displays good citizenship and contributes to the school community. The recipient is honored at a Rotary breakfast meeting and is presented a savings bond.

Parents: Jonathan and Suzanne Carlson.

Siblings: Julia and Sarah.

Activities: Varsity cross country running, varsity indoor track, spring track, Student Council, National Honor Society.

Community activities: Co-organized a food drive for Good Shepherd Food-Bank, volunteered at Casco Halloween Party, Santa’s Workshop and Red Cross blood drives at Lake Region High School.

Hobbies: Sailing, snowboarding, golf and fishing.

Future plans: Go to college to become a teacher.

Schools applied to or will apply to: Castleton State College in Vermont and the University of Maine at Farmington.

What is your favorite class? U.S. History, because I really enjoy the Revolutionary and Civil War periods.

What is your toughest class? A.P. World History, because we have an extensive amount of homework and an extensive test every class.

How do you balance your class work and your extracurricular activities? I take advantage of any free time I have to get schoolwork done, and work efficiently during my classes.

What is the biggest challenge high school students face today? The distractions technology provides, and the pressures to get into college.

Who has inspired you educationally? Senora (Mary) Hubka, because she always pushed me to try harder and to exceed expectations.
