Christel MacLeod

Christel E. MacLeod, 82, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at her home in Bridgton.

She was born in Teltow, Germany, and immigrated to the United States in 1937. She was raised with her four younger siblings in Oxon Hill, Maryland. After graduating from Oxon Hill High School, she attended Newton Junior College in Massachusetts and became a registered nurse. Pediatrics was her love. She resided in New England for the rest of her life, the majority spent in Sudbury, Mass. She raised four children and later worked for the Sudbury Board of Health, and was a frequent volunteer at the polls on Election Day. Christel relocated closer to family in Bridgton in 2016.

Christel’s greatest source of joy in life was her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her loves also included gardening, nature (birds and animals), sports, her dear friends and her Christian faith family. She was a member of the Sudbury United Methodist Church and the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, in Bridgton, where she was a member of the Ladies Guild and an office volunteer. Christel will be remembered as a caring, passionate, fun, loyal and faithful individual by her family, friends, and all she served.

She is survived by her children, Scott A. MacLeod of Sudbury, Mass., Heather P. MacLeod (Josef Keller) of Brownfield, Karen R. MacLeod of Denmark, and Melanie A. Dunn (Deric W.) of Reisterstown, Md.; her grandchildren, Hawk Reynoso (Katie) of Portland, Kiowa Reynoso (Amelia) of Winterville, N.C., Sequoyah Reynoso of La Jolla, Calif., Julia and Jeremy Dunn of Reisterstown, Md., and Colleen Bullard of Denmark; and her great-granddaughters, Maryn, Eva, and Layla Reynoso of Winterville, N.C., and Veronica Reynoso of Portland; siblings, Benjamin (Sue) Werle of San Luis Obispo, Calif., Christian (Diane) Werle of Panama City, Fla., Hermine “Mimi” (Rex) Stricklin of Morristown, Tenn., and Ruth (Morton) James of Mosheim, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Hermine (Hachenberg) Werle; and her former husband, Russell A. MacLeod.

Her family appreciates the excellent care provided by the caring staffs of Bridgton Hospital Oncology Clinic and Androscoggin Home Health Care and Hospice.

A memorial service in celebration of her life is planned for Sunday, Aug. 5, at 1 p.m., at the First Congregational Church, 33 S. High St., Bridgton. She will be laid to rest in a private burial in Sudbury, Mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Breast Cancer Research Fund, Androscoggin Home Health Care and Hospice, or to the First Congregational Church, Bridgton, 33 S. High St., Bridgton, ME 04009.
