Charmaine P. Carter

FALMOUTH — Charmaine P. Carter, 82, of Falmouth, formerly of Westbrook, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 11, 2011, with her four children at her side.

She was born in Burlington, Vt., the daughter of Glen and Sarah Baker Prest. She graduated from Deering High School and attended Westbrook College.

On August 16, 1948, she married the love of her life, Norman W. Carter. During their 53 years together, they especially looked forward to spending their summers at their cottage on Pettingill Pond with their family.

Charmaine had a passion for antiques and rented a booth at a local antiques shop for many years. She also loved going to yard sales, playing bridge, bingo and doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She loved nature and enjoyed feeding the many birds that visited her backyard.

Her love of gardening showed in her many beautiful gardens. She especially enjoyed writing letters to all her family and friends.

She was corresponding secretary for the Woman’s Republican Club in her early years, later volunteering for the Ronald McDonald House.

Her family always came first. This special mother and grandmother will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

She was predeceased by her husband, Norman, in 2002; her brothers, Donald and Glen Prest; and sisters, Jean Cook and Virginia Fahie of Nova Scotia.

Surviving are her sister, Mary Margaret Prest of Alberta, Canada; her son, Robert Carter of Scarborough; daughters, Deborah Morris of Raymond, Jeanne St. Cyr of Falmouth and Jacqueline Carter, also of Falmouth; seven grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

There will be a private graveside service. Arrangements are by Blais and Hay Funeral Home.
