Charlotte Buchanan

BEVERLY, MASS. — Charlotte E. (Pearse) Buchanan, 94, of Beverly, Mass., passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Ledgewood Rehab & Nursing Facility in Beverly.

She was born on Sept. 6, 1921. She was one of eight children born to the late Leslie H. and Edith (Moody) Pearse.

Mom was predeceased by her husband, Matthew L. Buchanan Sr., Ret. U.S. Navy. Mom was proud to be a Navy wife and traveled the country with Matt and the children.

Charlotte was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grand-mother, aunt and friend. She loved spending time with her family, and found great joy in sharing in their lives. She had a kind and caring spirit and loved to laugh and have a good time with her family and friends. Her wish for each and everyone she loved was just simple happiness. She taught us there is good in everyone.

Mom loved to play cards (only for money), go to bingo and trips to Salem Willows for her chop suey sandwiches and popcorn. Mom had a “mad crush” on Elvis. She also looked forward to her weekly visits by her granddog "Ted" — they were best buds. Mom loved to spend time in Maine, and loved watching the boats on Long Lake.

In addition to her husband, she was also predeceased by her five sisters and two brothers, as well as her daughter-in-law and several nephews and nieces.

Charlotte is survived by her four loving and devoted children and their spouses, Sharon and Ken Wilson of Harrison, William and Maria Buchanan, of Naples, Matthew and Rose Buchanan, of Keene N.H., and David and Linda Buchanan, Beverly, Mass.; and six grandchildren, Keri and Jason Buchanan, Matthew and Sean Buchanan, Elizabeth Buchanan and Julie Gray. She was a great-grandmother to Thomas and Kristen Gray. She is also survived by her extended family, Scott and Marlene Wilson, Barbara Wilson and Jeff Wilson; as well as many loving nephews and nieces. Especially her loving and devoted niece, caregiver and guardian angel Gail Burns Estes — don't know what we would have done without you Gail —we love you and thank you.

Services and burial were held in Beverly, Mass.

Donations in her memory may be made to: Salvation Army, 50 Elliott Street, Beverly MA 01915, or to Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Avenue, Salem MA 01970-1738.
