Catherine E. (Doherty) Roy, 96

EASTON, MASS, — Catherine E. (Doherty) Roy, 96, of Pembroke, Mass. and formerly of Naples died Friday, May 19, 2017 at Southeast Healthcare Center.

Born in Boston, Mass., a daughter of the late Patrick J. and Elizabeth (O’Neil) Doherty, she was raised in Charlestown and was a graduate of Charlestown High School.

Catherine was employed as a bookkeeper and retired in 1992 after the loss of her beloved husband, Roland L. Roy. She was extremely devoted to the Catholic Church and volunteered for all church activities. She was a communicant of the Our Lady of the Lake Church in Halifax and a former member of the Sodality of Our Lady Guild.

A resident of Maine for many years, she relocated to Pembroke in 2000. When her health began to fail in September of 2016, she became a resident of Southeast Healthcare Center.

Catherine was an avid bingo player and loved to travel. An avid reader, she enjoyed playing cards and spending time with all of her family and friends.

Catherine is survived by her brother, Richard Doherty of West Harwich, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. Her nieces and nephews referred to her as “Lovie.”

She was also the sister of the late Francis Doherty, Joseph Doherty, James Doherty, Mary Landry and Rosanna Doucette.

A Memorial Mass was held on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the Our Lady of the Lake Church, 580 Monponsett Street, Halifax. Interment will be private.
