Casey Christensen

SEBAGO — Casey (Kurry) Christensen, 49, formerly of Sebago, died on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016 at the Barron Center in Portland after a long illness.

She was born in Lynn, Mass. on March 12, 1966, attended local schools, and graduated from Lake Region High School in 1984.

Casey was hit by a car at her school bus stop in Sebago when she was only eight years old. Even though much of her life was spent in and out of hospitals and rehabilitation programs, she always had a smile on her face and had the ability to make everyone around her laugh, even at the Barron Center in recent days.

She enjoyed spending summers at Pine Tree Camp in Oakland and attended Pondicherry Girl Scout Camp in Bridgton. She spent time at the Shriners’ Hospital and the Perkins School for the Blind Head Injury Program, both in Massachusetts. Even though she didn’t like being at those places, she made the best of it. She enjoyed time spent at the Casco Bay Rehab Swimming Program in Freeport. She has lived independently at the Loring House in Portland for the past 22 years before her health forced her to move to the Barron Center.

Casey loved the water and swimming. It didn’t matter if it was the ocean or the lake. She also liked plants and flowers, as well as various arts and crafts. She loved animals, especially her cats over the years. Casey was always selfless, kind and compassionate. She was very giving and would always help others when she could. She was a beautiful soul and will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

Surviving are her mother, Marcia Clark Christensen of Sebago; her boyfriend, Jeffrey Lewis of Portland; her brother, Kurt Christensen of Sebago; and her niece and nephew.

A celebration of her life will be on Sunday, March 6, at 2 p.m. at the North Sebago United Methodist Church on Route 114 in North Sebago. Arrangements are by Watson, Neal & York Funeral Home and Cremation Service (www.wnyfuneralhome.com).

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Casey’s name to one of the camps or programs mentioned earlier, or to a charity of your choice that is close to your heart.
