SCARBOROUGH — Carole L. Dalrymple, 84, of Scarborough passed away at home on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018.

Carole was born on Nov. 15, 1933 in Newton, Mass. to Alphonse and Tillie Gaysunas. She graduated from Newton High School, Class of 1952 and then went on to study at and graduate from Lasalle College in 1954.

In 1957, Carole married Douglas Dalrymple. They moved to Maine in 1966, settling in Cape Elizabeth. They spent many happy summers at their cottage on Brandy Pond in Naples. In 1985, they built their dream home on the ocean at Orrs Island. 

Carole and Doug had four children. After raising the children, Carole went on to earn her bachelor’s and then master’s degree in Education from University of Southern Maine. She taught Special Education at Hall School in Portland for many years.

Once retired, Carole and Doug enjoyed traveling to many different countries and spent their winters in Green Valley, Ariz. Carole volunteered at the Breast Care Center at Maine Medical Center and the Mid-Coast Hunger Prevention Center in Brunswick for many years. She spent much of her time going to sporting and school events for her kids and then for her grandchildren.

Carole was predeceased by her parents; and her sister, Elaine Coppinger.

Surviving are her loving husband of 60 years, Doug Dalrymple; four children, Susan Hendrix of Scarborough, Scott Dalrymple of Green Valley, Ariz., Kim Rovzar of Destin, Fla. and Paul Dalrymple of Westbrook; her beloved six grandchildren and great-grandson; her brothers, Clifford Gaysunas of Hanover, Mass. and Ronald Gaysunas of Blacksburg, Va.; goddaughter along with many other nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2018 at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland followed by a reception.
