Bruce A. Young Sr., 83

GORHAM — Bruce Alton Young Sr. 83, of Gorham, passed away on Friday, Nov. 7, 2014, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Scarborough.
He was born in Warren on March 19, 1931, the son of Maynard and Priscilla Durgin Young. His family moved several times before settling in Hollis. He attended local schools and graduated from Hollis High School.
Bruce served for four years in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Bruce worked at Saunders Brothers, where he was the foreman in the paint shop and then later for Sappi in Westbrook, from which he retired from in 1996.
He was a member of the Snowgoers Snowmobile Club.
He was a longtime resident of the town of Gorham. He was hardworking, loving, supportive and selflessly cared for all of his family until the end. His favorite pastimes were cars, dickering, buying, selling and trading.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Norma Usher Young of Gorham; three sons, Bruce Jr. of Yarmouth, Paul of Gorham and Ronald of Gorham; two daughters, Sandra Young of Casco and Gail Bennett of Westbrook; a brother, Royce (Skip) Young of Waterboro; a sister, Rita Anderson of Hollis; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Raymond Young, Pat Cram, Edrie Conley and Muriel Perkins; and a grandson.
Visiting hours were held on Monday, Nov. 10, at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, 13 Portland Road, Buxton. Private graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Plains Road, in Hollis.
Family suggest that memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Multiple Sclerosis Society or to the American Diabetes Association.
