Basil C. Tasker Jr., 84

BUXTON — Basil C. Tasker Jr., 84, passed away peacefully in Buxton on Sunday, March 29, 2015.

He was born in Pittsfield on Nov. 22, 1930, a child of the late Basil and Daisy (Taylor) Tasker.

He graduated from Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield in 1949, where he won the Manson Price Speaking Contest, Science Citizenship Medal, and was named to the National Honor Society.

He then served his country in the U.S. Navy for four years and served aboard the USS Currituck AV7 as an ET3. While serving in the Navy, he attended Navy Electronics School and studied radar and radio electronics in a 42-week training course.

Basil went on to work as an electronic engineer for GE, Fairchild and retired from National Semiconductor after 27 years of service.

He enjoyed metalworking and machining, as well as hunting and fishing.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Phyllis (Vedine) Tasker, and all his siblings.

Basil is survived by his children, Jan Frank of Buxton, Larry Tasker of Tennesse and Nanette Norden of Denmark; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Basil will be laid to rest next to his wife in a private graveside service with U.S. Navy Honors in May at the South Buxton (Tory Hill) Cemetery.
