Barry Hill

OQUOSSOC / NORTH FRYEBURG — Barry Hill, of Oquossoc and North Fryeburg, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, in Farmington, Maine. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Barry was born in North Fryeburg, Nov. 16, 1950, the third of four children born to David and Peggy Jones Hill.

Barry grew up on the family farm in North Fryeburg and loved the farm land that was such a wonderful part of his childhood. He graduated from Fryeburg Academy in 1969. Barry and Janice Maloney were married on Feb. 6, 1971, and Barry continued to work the farm as his children, Jessica, Barry II and Jenny, were born.

Barry and Janice made Oquossoc their vacation home and then their primary home when Barry and Janice started their semi retirement. Barry returned to North Fryeburg for spring planting and fall harvest — two of his favorite times of year on the farm.

Barry delighted in the birth of his grandchildren. He was blessed with six grandchildren and a seventh grandchild who will be born in three weeks. He loved his “Ba and Bumpa” role and his grandchildren loved him dearly.

Barry loved farming the fields in North Fryeburg, mowing his lawns, snowmobiling in the mountains of Oquossoc, the family camp at Kimball Pond, and feeding the deer at his home in Oquossoc.

Barry was a big man, with a big heart, who loved his family, his friends and life.

Barry is survived by his wife, Janice Maloney Hill, of Oquossoc and No. Fryeburg;  daughter, Jessica Hill Nichols and husband, Nate, of Rangeley; son, Barry II and wife, Molly Sylvester Hill, of North Fryeburg; daughter, Jenny Hill York and husband, Nate, of Lovell; six grandchildren – Sophia Barrett, Wyatt James and soon to be born Sawyer David Nichols, Henry James and Hagen Oliver Hill, and Jack Nathan and Lyla Grace York; brother, Brian Hill and his wife, Elaine, of Leesburg, Fla.; sister, Bonnie Hill, of Boston, Mass.; sister, Barbara Hill, of North Fryeburg; several nephews; maternal uncle Edward Jones and his wife, Diane, and paternal aunt, Nancy Hill LaCasce and her husband, Dick, of Hallowell.

A celebration of his life will be held at the North Fryeburg Community Chapel, (formerly the Universalist Church) in No. Fryeburg, on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at 11 a.m. A private family committal service will be held this summer at the family farm.
