Barbara Mees

WATERFORD, CONN. — Barbara Mees, 82, of Waterford, Conn., died peacefully at Norwichtown Rehabilitation Center on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, after a short illness.
Born and raised in Bridgton, she was the daughter of Burnett and Pearl Humphrey. Barbara has always cherished her memories of growing up in Bridgton with her lifelong best friend, Sadie Trembley, of Groton, Conn. She later returned to Bridgton in the 1970s. She has visited often since her return to Conn.
Barbara raised her family of six children in Willimantic, Conn. Barbara was a retired nurse, having worked for both Windham Hospital and the State of Connecticut.
She was predeceased by her oldest son, Francis Meakem. She is survived by her children: John Meakem of Silver Spring, Md., Donald Meakem of Windham Center, Conn., Julie Carignan of Coventry, Conn., Brenda Perkins of Windham Center, Conn., and Michael Meakem of Dayville, Conn. She also leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Barbara’s family received relatives and friends Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson Street (Rte. 195), Willimantic, Conn. Her Funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m., on Monday, Jan. 5, at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson Street, Willimantic, Conn. Burial followed at St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham, Conn. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA Southeastern, 403 North Frontage Rd., Waterford, CT 06385. A brief gathering for family and friends followed the burial.
