FRYEBURG – Barbara H. Coffin, 83, a longtime resident of Bridgton, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at Fryeburg Health Care Center.

She was born in Bridgton on Aug. 2, 1930, the daughter of Raymond S. Hilton and Marguerite L. Sawtelle. She was raised by her mother and her stepfather Hollis B. Farris after the death of her father. She graduated from Bridgton High School in 1947 and married Vaughn L. Coffin. She was a handsewer at Pleasant Mountain Moccasin. She was there when they opened, and retired after 38 years.

She was a member of the Pondicherry Eastern Star, the Bridgton Congregational Church, the Friendship Class at church, and the Bridgton Garden Club. She collected t-shirts and postcards. She took pictures and contributed to The Bridgton News. She also enjoyed traveling with her sister.

She is survived by her son, David of Bridgton; her daughters, Donna of Dover-Foxcroft and Bonnie and her husband Randy Bertrand of Dover, N.H.; her sister, Kathy Elliot of E. Hartford, Conn.; a nephew, Mark Elliott of E. Hartford, Conn.; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, 8 Elm St., Bridgton, with interment to follow at Forest Hills Annex Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Friendship Class at Bridgton Congregational Church, 33 S. High St., Bridgton, ME 04009.
