Austin "Buddy" Webster

FRYEBURG — Austin R. “Buddy” Webster, 74, of Fryeburg, died Friday morning, June 29, 2018, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, surrounded by his wife and children.

He was born on May 20, 1944, in North Conway, N.H., a son of Dean and Elaine (White) Webster. He attended local schools, graduating from Kennett High School in 1963.

On June 28, 1969, he married Jodine Burnell at the “New Church” in Fryeburg. They made their home in Fryeburg as a young couple, while Buddy worked traveling throughout the Northeast doing line construction.

Later, Buddy began a career in car sales, and was a good one. Over the past few decades, he worked at Carrick Motors, Bob Gerry Chevrolet (where he and Bob were known as the “the Country Boys”), Battles Ford, Crest Chevrolet, Walker Chevrolet and, most recently, at Sebago Lake Automotive.

Buddy was a longtime member of the Fryeburg Lions Club and served as the King Lion for many years.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, Saturday night racing at Oxford Plains Speedway in “the good ole days,” and especially time with his family and grandchildren, who lovingly referred to him as their “Best Bubba.”

He was loved by his wife, Jodine of Fryeburg; son, Marc Webster and his longtime companion, Denise McGrath of Fryeburg; daughter, Meggan Day and her husband, Jeff of Fryeburg; two grandchildren, Meredith and Austin; and two sisters, Brenda Leach of Conway and Bonnie Turcotte of Fryeburg. He was predeceased by his parents.

Memorial graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 7, at the Fryeburg Pine Grove Cemetery. Gifts may be given in Buddy’s memory to the Fryeburg Lions Club, P.O. Box 365, Fryeburg, ME 04037. Arrangements are in the care of the Wood Funeral Home, 9 Warren St., Fryeburg. Condolences, tributes and some “good ole Buddy stories” may be shared with his family and friends at www.woodfuneralhome.org
