Audrey N. Tinkham, 94

WEST BATH — Audrey N. Tinkham, 94, of West Bath, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2017, at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

She was born in New Gloucester on April 14, 1922, the daughter of John O. and Ivy (Edwards) Nelson.

She attended New Gloucester schools and graduated from New Gloucester High School in 1940. Audrey graduated from Bliss Business College in Lewiston, and received her Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Maine in Orono.

While a student at Bliss College, Audrey met Clifford P. Tinkham, and they were married on April 14, 1944.

Audrey was a teacher for many years. She taught both business subjects and physical education in Farmington, Bridgton, Bar Harbor, Wiscasset and Morse High School in Bath, retiring in 1983.

After retirement, Audrey and Cliff spent several winters traveling throughout the United States and the Canadian provinces.

She was a lifetime member of the Golden Sheaf Chapter of the Eastern Star of New Gloucester, the Bath Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in Bath, the Maine Association of Retirees, Downeast Yacht Club, and Maine Maritime Museum.

Audrey was predeceased by her husband, Clifford P. Tinkham, on March 10, 2004; a son, John C. Tinkham, in 1991; and a sister, Estelle Thompson.

She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Taggart of West Bath; a son, William N. Tinkham of Skowhegan; two sisters, Glenice Bowie of Wales and Jean Mitchell of Vero Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
