Anne K. Turnbull

NAPLES — Anne Katherine (Robb) Turnbull, 83, formerly of Naples and Portland, passed away of natural causes on Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010 at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth.

She was born on Oct. 6, 1926 in Woodland, the last of eight children of the late Daniel and Florence (Millman) Robb.  Annie, as she was known, graduated from Woodland High School in 1944 and then went on to nursing school graduating from the Maine General Hospital Training School for Nurses in 1948.  She married the late Jefferson C. Thomas in July of 1950 and over their 10-year marriage had two children and resided in Rumford, Endicott, N.Y. and Portland.  In December of 1960, she married Dr. Elliott Turnbull and had three children. They resided in Portland and eventually moved to Naples.  She was licensed to practice nursing in Maine and New York and worked at hospitals in Endicott, N.Y., Rumford, Portland, and for 15 years at Northern Cumberland Memorial Hospital in Bridgton until her retirement in 1988.  She also helped manage the Elm House Inn and Cottages on Brandy Pond in Naples for a number of years.
Anne was a very private person who enjoyed pets, gardening, crafts, reading, card games and puzzles but, most of all she was a loving mother who devoted herself to raising her children.  She was very proud of them and of all their accomplishments.

She is survived by her five children: Greta Falletta of Byron Center, Mich., Gregory Thomas of Scarborough, David Turnbull of Portland, William Turnbull of Virginia Beach, Va. and Elizabeth Carver of Northfield; her six grandchildren and her two great-grandchildren.
A private family memorial is planned.
