SOUTH PORTLAND — Ann Elizabeth Evans Kernander, 93, of South Portland, formerly of Naples, Maine, Pompano Beach, Fla., and Boxford, Mass., passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at a local nursing home on Sunday, June 7, 2015.

She was born in Salem, Mass., on August 3, 1921, the daughter of Patrick J. and Ann F. Traynor Evans, and attended Salem schools. She was employed by the General Electric Company Instrument Department in West Lynn, Mass., as Secretary to the Manager of Engineering, and later by the U.S. Postal Service in Boxford and West Newbury, Mass.

Ann was active in Girl and Boy Scouts, and for many years volunteered at the Naples Public Library.

She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Bridgton, and St. Bartholomew’s Church in Cape Elizabeth.

She was the beloved wife of 56 years of Warren N. Kernander, who predeceased her in 2006. She was also predeceased by her eldest son, George E. Kernander, formerly of Sebago.

In retirement, Ann and her husband Warren traveled extensively in the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Orient.

She is survived by her son Warren N. Jr. of Michigan; daughter Marianna of Maine; grandchildren, Caitlin and Cullen of Mich.; and her sister Mary-Heather Fitzgerald of Arlington, Va.

Per Ann’s request, there will be no viewing or memorial service. Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Topsfield, Mass., with a graveside committal service by the Pastor of St. Rose of Lima Church in Topsfield.
