Anita R. Buswell

Fryeburg — Anita Rebecca Buswell died May 24th after a short battle with lung cancer. She was born Feb. 16, 1927 in Chatham, N.H. to the late Dean and Evangeline Charles. Anita was the second of 11 siblings. She lived most of her life in Fryeburg. She worked in a number of jobs in the Fryeburg area, and married her first husband, Howard E. Brown, in 1950. They moved from Fryeburg, living in Portland and Buxton, Maine. Howard died in 1967 and Anita and her four children moved back to Fryeburg in 1968. In 1979 Anita married her second husband, Ronald "Ponk" Buswell. The two were married for 31 years until Ponk's death in 2010.

She was an avid crafter, and enjoyed crocheting, knitting and pressed-flower art. She participated in a senior's bowling league until the age of 81. She is survived by her sisters, Doris "Dot" Ela and Norma Dipiero; her son, Philip Brown and his wife Pat of Poland; a daughter, Gail Graves and her husband Peter of Fryeburg Harbor; a son, Rodney Brown of Marblehead, Mass.; and son, David Brown and his wife Carol of Acton, Mass.; her stepchildren, Catherine Wood and her husband David, Lorraine McDonald and her husband Peter, Sharon Buswell, Frances Dooan, Cynthia Kenerson and her husband Wayne, Veronica Lambert; five grandchildren, Peter, Lyndsay, Patrick, Jenn and Becky. She is predeceased by her brothers; Madison Charles, Dean Charles, George Charles; her sisters, Ruth Dyer, Betty Burnell, Sadie Day,  Lorraine Guy and Mary Charles.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, May 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 9 Warren Street, Fryeburg, Maine. A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 31st, at 3:30 p.m. at Fryeburg Assemble of God, Drift Road, Fryeburg. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Bowdoin Mill Island, Topsham, ME 04086.
