Anita L. Delano

SCARBOROUGH — Anita L. Delano, 66, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.
She was born on May 22, 1944, in Bath, the daughter of Byron S. and Shirley (Reay) Safford. She married Douglas A. Delano on Jan. 18, 1964, at the First Congregational Church in South Portland.
Anita always loved to work and was employed at Fairchild, Nacki Bearing and at Konica Photo Labs, where she worked as a photo finisher for 25 years.
Anita loved to knit afghans. She would make them for her home, family and friends. In her later years, she developed arthritis in her fingers and it became too painful for her to hold the material or the knitting needles. She loved to go to Pine Point Beach and walk along the sand collecting special stones and shells, or to just sit and look at the ocean. Anita enjoyed country music. She loved cats.
She was predeceased by her son, David A. Delano.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Douglas A. Delano of Scarborough; children, Teresa M. Manchester of Sebago, Lori A. Delano of Saco and Daniel D. Delano of Port Orchard, Wash.; an aunt and uncle; brothers, Steven Blake of Provo, Utah, and Dennis Blake of Alabama; sister, Debbie Hanson of California; and four grandchildren.
Visiting hours were on Wednesday, Nov. 3, at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4, at the funeral home.
