CAPE ELIZABETH — Alice Veilleux Nichol, 89, of Cape Elizabeth, passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, with her family by her side.

Alice was born in Waterville on Jan. 24, 1925, the daughter of Louis Philippe and Valeda Labbe Veilleux. She attended local schools in Waterville and graduated from the University of Maine. Alice was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy Waves.

Alice worked as a department manager for Archives at the State of Maine, retiring in the early 90s. She was a lifelong communicant of the Catholic Church and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign War.

Alice was predeceased by her first husband, Armand Fleury; by her second husband, Francis D. Nicol in 1999; and two brothers and five sisters.

Alice is survived by two daughters, Audrey Klausner of Brownfield and Catherine Fleury of South Carolina; two sons, Philip Fleury and Michael Fleury, both of Mt. Vernon; two brothers, Dr. Lucien Veilleux and Lionel Veilleux; three sisters, Evelyn Proulx, Delia Dutil and Jeanne Seile; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, from 1 to 3 p.m., at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant Street, Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, at 12:30 p.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 41 Western Avenue, Augusta. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at the Old Maine Veterans Cemetery, Augusta.
